Computer Science and Information Technology

M.Sc. & Ph.D

Overview

The Department offers two comprehensive programs of study in Computer Science and Information Technology, namely, M.Sc. and Ph.D.  There are two plans of study in the M.Sc. Program that are designed to suit the students’ need, i.e., a thesis option and a master project option. The former is suitable for students who wish to pursue in-depth study in computer science, thereby aiming to continue on doctoral degree.  The latter, on the other hand, is a terminal degree which is designed specifically for students who wish to broaden the purview of computer science knowledge, thereby applying toward their career in computer industry.

The M.Sc. Program aims to corroborate the existing Ph.D. Program in Computer Science and Information Technology, which offers state-of-the-art researches in both areas.  All research activities are conducted by the Advanced Virtual and Intelligent Computing (AVIC) Research Center, encompassing five research groups, namely,

  1. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Neural Computing.
  2. Image Processing, Computer Vision, and Visualization.
  3. Software and Knowledge Engineering.
  4. Computer Networking.
  5. Bioinformatics, Plant Modeling, and Simulation.

Based on the above research spectra, both Programs will expand the horizon of state-of-the-art R&D activities that have already been established by the Ph.D. Program since 1999. Various innovations and technical know-how can then be realized through master theses, master projects, and doctoral dissertation.
